S2.1 Independent task – Who is in control: you or your cognitive biases?

Learning objectives

The exercise helps the student to understand what cognitive biases are/bias is and how they affect thinking and decision-making. The task develops critical thinking and teaches students to question their own assumptions and prejudices.

The aim is to learn to recognise common cognitive biases and their effects on everyday life.

Assignment and detailed instructions

  1. Research online: What does cognitive bias mean? Write a short explanation.
  2. Write an introductory text and/or draw a image of at least five different cognitive biases.
  3. Think about and write down examples of situations where you notice these cognitive biases in your own life, in your friends and family, or in the media.
  4. Analyse your observations and consider how cognitive biases affect thinking and decision-making. What impact can biases have on society?

Materials and equipment

Computer, tablet or mobile phone. Artificial intelligence, such as the Copilot language model, can also be used here.
