Learning objectives
The tasks helps students to observe and analyse their own sources of information.
Assignment and detailed instructions

Which media (TV, newspapers, social media, instant messaging, online search engines) do you search or receive information from about topical issues related to society, for example? Make a list of all of the information sources you use (e.g. Ilta-Sanomat, Instagram, TikTok).
- Estimate how much time you spend on each information source per day. Which one do you use the most and which one the least?
- Check your daily screen time for the apps you use on your mobile phone. See the instructions here: Selaatko puhelintasi enemmän kuin muut? Vertaa ja ota haltuun ruutuaikasi. Record your actual screen time on the original list.
- Assess the quality of the information sources you use in relation to an article written by a journalist that follows the Journalist’s Guidelines. See the Journalist’s Guidelines here.
- Reflect and write down: Which sources of information are highlighted? Which ones could have a bigger role? If you want up-to-date information, which sources of information should you use and why?
